What You Should Know About Cheyenne (Before Moving Here)

May 27, 2026

Moving to Cheyenne? Homes By Guardian has your need to know information!

If you’ve been called to the west, Cheyenne, Wyoming, is a great place to land. With amazing landscapes and natural beauty as the mainstay, you get the perks of big-city living with a small-town feel.

Finding a home in a relocation can be stressful, but Homes By Guardian makes it effortless. See our new homes in Whitney Ranch and learn more about the beautiful city of Cheyenne today!

What Makes Cheyenne, Cheyenne?

Clear Skies

Wyoming is a low-populated state and famous for its expansive skyline. Unlike highly populated cities with pollution and smog, Cheyenne offers clear, clean skies that never get in the way of stargazing!

Winters are cold.

Locals joke that anyone from neighboring states or even cities can’t visit between the months of November and March because the winters can be so harsh. Cheyenne receives heavy snowfall — when coupled with high winds and extremely low temperatures, things can get pretty hairy.

If you’re ready to experience a true winter — bundle up — you’ll get it here in Cheyenne!

Great Escapes

Wyoming is known for some pretty incredible destinations, and most are within a couple of hours of Cheyenne. From Medicine Bow and Vedauwoo to Jackson Hole, Yellowstone, and Devil’s Tower, there are so many outdoor places to escape to.

Hunting is a large part of the culture.

Hunting is a mainstay in Wyoming, so don’t be surprised when all your neighbors and friends take time off in the fall for hunting and are gone most weekends. Not only do people love the sport, but they truly live off the land and keep their freezers stocked with elk and bison to enjoy before the next season rolls around.

Traffic is a non-issue.

If you’re coming from densely populated areas where sitting in hours of traffic is the norm, Cheyenne and the state of Wyoming has very little traffic. In Cheyenne, you can get from one side of town to the other in 10 to 20 minutes and, when traveling around the state, you may only see a couple of other vehicles on the road at a time — no bumper-to-bumper traffic here!

Wyoming is known for their extractive industries.

Wyoming is known for its breathtaking landscapes in Yellowstone and Medicine bow alike, putting conservation as a top priority. It also has many extractive industries such as mining and fracking, which largely supports the Wyoming economy. It provides many jobs that draw people into the state.

Cowboys are alive and well!

Boots, belt buckles, and big diesel trucks are a staple in Cheyenne because ranching and rodeos are still a large part of the culture. Cheyenne Days, a summer celebration, attracts people from all over the country participating in rodeo events with the nights filled with live country music acts.
